こんにちは皆さん、ブログにたどり着いた皆さん。私は2005年に渡米して、アメリカはサンディエゴの美容室BB Meme Salonを開業、現在二店舗のオーナであり、ヘアスタイリスト、そしてプロフォトグラファー日々活躍中です。このブログでは、私のヘアーデザインのアイデア「Less Distorted Hair Designing」を、「骨格構造と毛流れ補正法」を使って説明していきます。

What is Modern?

This hairstyle can be crafted using only the major rotation poles, and the combination of these procedures ensures the best fit for the head shape. But this raises the question: Why do so many different techniques exist in hairstyling? This question puzzled me for a long time, especially after discovering that hairstyling fundamentally alters the perceived shape of our head.

To understand this, I delved into design histories across various fields—architecture, automotive design, fashion design, and more. Through this research, I sought to uncover the underlying reasons for the vast array of techniques in each discipline.

The answer to my question emerged as follows:

What is Modern?

The shorter the hair, the more it reveals our naturally distorted head shape—our organic form. As Homo sapiens, our original shape is a rounded skull, but hair designing began to redefine our head shape with straight lines. Over time, we recognized that we are part of nature and cannot exist outside of its system. This eco-conscious mindset gained importance, particularly after the Oil Shock of the 1970s.

Consequently, hair design couldn’t solely focus on the theme of “modernization.” As beauticians, we had to navigate the constant shifts in hair design trends, moving back and forth between “modern” and “natural” aesthetics.

The clothing industry has the advantage of various textures and materials to express these themes, while in hairstyling, our only material is hair. Despite numerous attempts to define what “modern” means, it continually evolves and remains elusive. However, one thing remains clear: “modern” isn’t about being bizarre or flattening the natural curves of our rounded heads.

It is to keep 1000g  container in our head shape.

It is to keep lines on our facial or head shape as Homo sapiens.

I decided to first observe the less distorted head shapes on my clients and then add the shortest possible length to achieve the desired hair design. Simply put, my approach involves correcting the client’s head’s natural distortions, including hair growth patterns, and placing the hairstyle correctly—just like how a flared skirt sits perfectly on the hips or waist.

The worst thing I can do in hair design is what happened with those Adidas pants I bought long ago: a poor fit. Proper fitting is crucial in hair design. The widest part of the hairstyle should align with the widest part of the head, and the narrowest part should match the smallest areas. Dents and bumps should not be camouflaged with blow-drying techniques but should be addressed while cutting the base shape.

This approach led me to the concept of applying lift, shaping down, and filling while continuously scanning the head shape and hair growth patterns during the cut

このヘアスタイルは、主要な回転ポールだけを使って作成することができ、これらの手法の組み合わせにより、頭の形に最も適したフィット感が得られます。しかし、ここで疑問が生じます。なぜ世の中にはあれ程多くの異なる技術が存在するのでしょうか？この疑問は私を長い間悩ませました。特に、ヘアカットが頭の形の見え方を根本的に変えることを発見した後です。

この疑問を理解するために、私は建築、カーデザイン、ファッションデザインなど、さまざまな分野のデザインの歴史を掘り下げました。この研究を通じて、各分野における広範囲な技術の理由を明らかにしようとしました。

私の質問に対する答えは以下のように浮かび上がりました。

### 「モダン」とは何か？

髪が短いほど、私たちの自然に歪んだ頭の形—私たちの有機的な形がより明らかになります。ホモ・サピエンスとして、私たちの元々の形は丸い頭蓋骨ですが、ヘアデザインは直線を用いて私たちの頭の形を再定義し始めました。時が経つにつれ、私たちは自然の一部であり、そのシステムから外れることはできないことを認識しました。このエコ意識は、特に1970年代のオイルショック以降、重要性を増しました。

その結果、ヘアデザインは単に「モダン化」のテーマに焦点を当てることはできませんでした。美容師としては、ヘアデザインのトレンドの絶え間ない変化を乗り越え、「モダン」と「自然」の美学の間を行き来しなければなりませんでした。

衣料産業は、さまざまなテクスチャーや素材を使ってこれらのテーマを表現するという利点がありますが、ヘアスタイリングでは唯一の素材は髪です。「モダン」の定義が何度も試みられてきたにもかかわらず、それは絶えず進化し、 複雑です。ただし、一つのことは明確です。『モダン』とは奇抜であることや、私たちの丸い頭の自然な曲線を平らにすることではありません。

私はまず、クライアントの骨格の上に歪みの少ない頭の形を観察し、その後、望ましいヘアデザインを実現するためにできるだけ短い長さを追加して狙ったデザインを再現する事に決めました。簡単に言えば、私のアプローチは、クライアントの頭の自然な歪み、髪の毛流パターンを修正し、ヘアスタイルを正しく配置することを含みます。これは、フレアスカートが腰やヒップにぴったりとフィットするのと同じです。

ヘアデザインにおいて最もしてはならない事は、私が昔買ったアディダスのパンツで起こったような、不適切なフィット感です。適切なフィッティングはヘアデザインにおいて重要です。ヘアスタイルの最も広い部分は頭の最も広い部分と一致させ、最も狭い部分は最も小さな部分に合わせるべきです。くぼみや出っ張りは、ドライヤー技術で隠すのではなく、ベースの形を切る際に対処する必要があります。

このアプローチにより、私は「エレベーション」、「フィッティング」、「フィル」ことの概念を取り入れ、カット中に頭の形と髪の毛流パターンを継続的にスキャンしながら進めることになりました。
