こんにちは皆さん、ブログにたどり着いた皆さん。私は2005年に渡米して、アメリカはサンディエゴの美容室BB Meme Salonを開業、現在二店舗のオーナであり、ヘアスタイリスト、そしてプロフォトグラファー日々活躍中です。このブログでは、私のヘアーデザインのアイデア「Less Distorted Hair Designing」を、「骨格構造と毛流れ補正法」を使って説明していきます。

The Domino Effect in Hair Design

The balance of hair styling on our head is like managing a balloon. If one part is too large, another must shrink to maintain overall harmony; otherwise, everything becomes oversized, making the head appear disproportionate to the body. Achieving a modern, balanced hairstyle involves more than simply creating volume—it’s about finding the right proportion.

Inspired by the DIGIC Method, which corrects hair flow using thinning scissors at a 45-degree angle, They developed the [Hair Flow Corrective Method]. Although I didn’t initially know how to achieve this without the specific DIGIC thinning scissors, I believed there had to be a way to lift the hair to a 45-degree angle by manipulating the shape of the ends. Typically, hair is compressed to under 15 degrees to perform its protective functions, offering texture like a cushion while allowing water to drain independently.

Functionality Meets Fashion

When I view hair this way, it’s clear that the foundation of beauty lies in the functionality of our natural needs. However, we now use this material emerging from our heads as a fashion element that frames our face. This perspective led me to the necessity of controlling the launching angle of hair. I often reflect on advice from my distant relative, Heisuke Hironaka, a renowned mathematician awarded the Fields Medal in 1970 for his contributions to algebraic geometry. During a visit with my father in my elementary school days, his words left a lasting impression:

“Blow up the image, and look at it from a high dimension. You will be surprised by how things can be simple enough to figure out.”

This concept guides my approach to problem-solving in hair design.

**ヘアデザインにおけるドミノ効果**

髪のスタイリングのバランスは、風船を扱うことに似ています。一部が大きくなりすぎると、他の部分は縮小しなければ全体の調和を保つことができません。さもなければ、すべてが大きすぎて頭が体に対して不均衡に見えてしまいます。現代的でバランスの取れたヘアスタイルを実現するには、単にボリュームを作るだけではなく、適切な比率を見つけることが重要です。

DIGICに触発され、髪の流れを45度の角度で調整するためのスキ鋏を用いた「毛流れ修正法」を商品化しました。初めは特定のDIGICスキ鋏がないとこれを達成する方法がわからなかったのですが、髪の先端の形を操作することで45度の角度に持ち上げる方法があるはずだと信じていました。通常、髪は15度以下に倒れています。保護機能を果たしながらクッションのようなテクスチャーを提供し、水を独立して排出する為です。

**機能性とファッションの融合**

このように髪を見ると、美しさの基礎は私たちの自然なニーズから来る機能性にあることが明らかです。しかし、現代では頭から出てくるこの素材を顔をフレーミングするファッション要素としてのニーズが高まりました。この視点から、髪の角度をコントロールする必要性が見えてきました。しばしば、私の遠い親戚である広中平祐（1970年に代数幾何学でフィールズ賞を受賞した著名な数学者）のアドバイスを反映します。小学校時代に父と一緒に訪問した際、彼の言葉は今も強い印象を残しています：

「イメージを膨らませて、高次元から見るといい。物事がどれほどシンプルに理解できるかに驚くことだろう。」

このコンセプトは、ヘアデザインの問題解決における私のアプローチを導引き出しました。

Creating Height with the Domino Effect

When working with clients who have less volume on top, particularly those with larger faces, achieving height becomes crucial for balance and proportion. This is where the “Domino Effect” comes into play. The key insight is that over-direction becomes significantly more effective with a longer travel distance, allowing for controlled movement and height creation.

Strategic Panel Over-Direction

My strategy begins with establishing short lengths at the sideburn, which serves as the foundation. From there, I over-direct the panels section by section, progressively moving forward. The technique involves rotating the panel operation as you move past the ear-to-ear line, directing the force upwards as the panel lengths increase. This gradual build-up of length and elevation culminates in a seamless flow toward the top.

Once past the ear, the direction of force is shifted forward, guiding the panels toward the Top center and creating a subtle yet impactful lift. This approach, though seemingly intricate, is deeply rooted in the classic Sassoon method. It blends a round shape from the sides to the back with a triangular shape at the top, moving the weight and length forward. The combination of these shapes allows for a natural elevation, adding volume precisely where it’s needed.

Understanding the 3D Map of Hair Design

Through this journey, I kept asking myself:

• Why am I over-directing the hair this way?
• Why does it always leave unwanted results?

Gradually, it all started making sense, and the puzzle pieces began to fit together. Working with 3D objects, like hair, requires manipulating the X, Y, and Z axes. You can alter the Z length by having a clear finishing plan, lifting, lowering, or twisting the hair stem. The key is developing a 3D mental map of the base shape for each styling plan.

The hidden hint lay in comprising of the “Mercator projection” and “Globe”. This distorted approach can be used to a similar approach to hair design allows us to visualize and create balanced, beautiful styles.

**ドミノ効果で作る高さ**

特に顔が大きいクライアントのように、トップにボリュームが少ない場合、高さを実現することがバランスと比率において重要です。ここで「ドミノ効果」が役立ちます。重要な洞察は、オーバーダイレクションが長い移動距離でより効果的になり、制御された動きと高さの創出を可能にするという点です。

**戦略的なパネルオーバーダイレクション**

私の戦略は、まずサイドバーンに短い長さを設定することから始めます。これがガイドとなり、そこからパネルをセクションごとにオーバーダイレクトし、徐々に前方に移動させます。この技術は、耳から耳へのラインを超えてパネル操作を回転させ、パネルの長さが増すにつれて力を上方向に導行きます。このように長さと高さを段階的に積み重ねることで、トップに向けてスムーズな流れが生まれます。

耳を過ぎると、力の方向が前方にシフトし、パネルがトップセンターに向かって導かれ、微妙でありながら影響力のあるリフトを作り出します。このアプローチは、複雑に見えるかもしれませんが、クラシックなサスーンメソッドに深く根ざしています。サイドからバックにかけてのラウンドシェイプとトップでのトライアンギュラーの効果を組み合わせて、重量と長さを前方に移動させます。これにより、自然なエレベーションが可能となり、必要な場所に正確にボリュームを追加することができます。

**バランスを取る際の課題：不要な長さの管理**

高さを作り、自然な髪の成長パターンに従う際の主要な課題の一つは、オーバーダイレクト中に特定のエリアに不要な長さが投影される傾向です。これがバランスを崩し、意図したデザインから逸脱する不均一な形を作り出すことがあります。

**技術の調整と長さのギャップを閉じる方法**

これに対処するために、カットプロセス中に現れる長さのギャップを管理し、閉じるための代替アプローチを開発する必要がありました。これには、各セクションの特定の毛流パターンに応じて、オーバーダイレクションの角度を慎重に調整し、高さを変更することが必要になります。

**ヘアデザインの3Dマップの理解**

この過程で、自分自身に問い続けました：

なぜこのように髪をオーバーダイレクトしているのか？
なぜいつも長い髪が残るのか？

次第にすべてが意味を持ち、パズルのピースがはまっていきました。髪のような3Dオブジェクトを扱う際には、X、Y、Z軸を操作する必要があります。Zの長さを変えるには、明確な完成のプランを持ち、髪のステムを持ち上げたり、下げたり、ねじったりすることが必要です。重要なのは、各スタイリングプランに対する3Dメンタルマップを開発することです。

隠されたヒントは、「メルカトル図法」と「地球儀」を組み合わせることにありました。このメカルト図法の歪んだアプローチを理解し、髪のデザインに応用することで、バランスの取れた美しいスタイルを視覚化し、創造することが可能になります。
